Almost six months old...
I felt that Charlie is now ready to enjoy story-time, so I started to read her a book before bed for the last week or so. I began reading
Each Peach Pear Plum to her, but she was totally underwhelmed with it. It's a really fun book though and I think that she will enjoy it in a year or so, as it asks for a more interactive approach. The book teaches you -and the kid- the classic English nursery rhymes and makes you find the usual nursery-rhyme suspects in the pictures. A bit like "Find Waldo" for babies. On the back cover it reads:
In this book
With your little eye
Take a look
And play "I spy"
Next up was
Guess How Much I Love You (a classic in its genre!) and she really took to it. The story is just long enough for her not to get too antsy and she is intrigued by the little voices I do (high pitched for the little bunny and graveyard voice for the daddy bunny). I had been wondering whether it was a good idea to read to her in English as Mik and I both talk to her in Flemish most of the time. Then again, she has to get familiar with English at some point and it's not like the story's plot line is terribly important to her at this point.
So I've been reading her the same book every night but she doesn't seem to mind. Lucky me: her memory only spans back about 5 minutes! In a week or so, I am planning to introduce a new book, probably one of my own childhood favourites, Nijntje.
